In 2024, after months of careful research, visiting multiple locations, and speaking with other venue owners, I made the decision to open my own grid game venue. Like many first-time entrepreneurs, I was both excited and nervous about the investment. After comparing different options in the market, I ultimately chose Activate Games Factory‘s modular active gaming system for a 180㎡ space. The total equipment and installation cost came to approximately $28,000.
We officially opened at the end of 2024. The early days were challenging. The first three months were mainly focused on building local awareness. We ran promotions, partnered with nearby communities, distributed flyers, and encouraged early visitors to share their experiences on social media. Revenue during this period was modest as we worked to establish our presence in the area.
By the sixth month, weekend traffic had become strong and consistent. Families started coming regularly, and weekday corporate and group bookings began to pick up steadily. From the ninth month onward, the performance data became very encouraging. We could clearly see the business gaining momentum, with increasing numbers of repeat customers and growing booking rates.
According to data from already landed projects, well-performing grid game venues usually recoup investment in 12-18 months, while some excellent projects can achieve payback in as fast as 9-15 months. My venue reached full investment recovery at around 13.5 months. As of June 2026, the venue has been continuously profitable for several months and continues to perform well with steady growth.
What Helped Me Achieve Faster Payback
Several key decisions contributed to the relatively fast recovery:
Selecting a suitable community location with steady family traffic and nearby office buildings proved to be one of the most important factors. The convenience of the location helped attract both weekend family visitors and weekday corporate groups.
Putting real effort into developing corporate team building packages. Companies in the area were looking for unique and active team building experiences, and our venue was able to meet that demand effectively.
Creating attractive membership packages for local families. This encouraged repeat visits and provided a more stable revenue stream throughout the month.
Making full use of the beautiful LED grid effects for social media promotion. The vibrant lights and dynamic gameplay created excellent photo and video opportunities that helped spread awareness organically.
Looking back at the journey, I feel very fortunate with how things turned out. The investment was manageable, the installation process was relatively smooth thanks to the modular design, and the venue has now become a stable, profitable business that brings joy to many families and groups in the community.
For anyone thinking about entering the indoor active gaming industry, my experience shows that with a reasonable equipment investment, a good location, and consistent effort, recovering investment within 12–18 months is realistic and attainable in today’s market. The key is choosing the right equipment partner and focusing on delivering a high-quality experience that encourages customers to return.
The past year and a half has been a valuable learning experience, and I am optimistic about the future growth of the venue as the concept of active, interactive entertainment continues to gain popularity.
